“Another book you might enjoy is The History of Photography by Beaumont Newhall, published by The Museum of Modern Art. I just got the Fourth Edition, 6th printing, printed in 1978, in the mail. In these pages a week or two ago, a guy who has been a working photographer for decades told a story about a workshop from a renowned photographer he took in Santa Fe early in his career. He said the photographer was a terrible teacher, but took a liking to him and took him shopping in town while the rest of the participants were doing something else. They were in a bookstore and the photographer thrust a copy of THoP in his hands and simply said, "Buy this."”
